Lot 17: A 'CHI-CHI' RUG, EAST CAUCASUS |
November 1, 2016
London, United KingdomLive Auction
Description: wool, pile
161cm across the top, 162cm across the bottom, 278cm the left hand side, 271cm the right hand side. Lovely flexible handle. Soft lustrous wool. Generally even 3mm pile, down to knotheads in left and centre of the upper border. Some minor oxidisation to dark browns, resulting in differentiation in height of pile against more resilient dyes. Centre left border, there is a circular shaped dark surface mark which has resulted in discolouration and weakness which has now been hand repaired in places (needs professional attention). Some very minor losses at both ends. Sidecords re-overcast. Would benefit from a professional clean. A smart and chic rug with striking narrow main indigo field, very nice quality.
