Description: A "Coffee House" Boxwood Chess Set, Austria, Circa 1840, one side stained black, the other side white, kings and queens with domed or egg shaped tops, bishops with alternate colored caps, knights as horses' heads, rooks as raised turrets, pawns with ball finials, with a painted wooden board. King is 6 cm and Pawn 3.25 cm high Board is 31 3/4 x 31 3/4 cm Provenance: South Bay Auctions
