Description: Round barrel with flattened midrib, smooth bore in 16 mm calibre. Mounted silver front sight. The barrel root and the area around the front sight with finely engraved, partly rubbed decoration, the side of the breech decorated with tendrils cut in relief. Illegible mark at the breech. Finely engraved lock with herm busts between tendril ornaments. Engraved signature "Coster à Utrecht". The cock spring an old replacement. Iron openwork side plate lavishly decorated with chiselled tendril ornaments and grotesque masks. Walnut full stock carved with rocaille ornaments in relief, nose of dark horn. Lightly chiselled iron furniture, the engraved pommel topped by a three-dimensional mascaron. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 52 cm. Cornelis Coster, recorded as a gunsmith in Utrecht from 1652 until his death before 1692.
