Description: Both sides of the lightly curved, nickel-plated pipe back blade are etched, obverse the crowned British royal coat of arms with the motto "Dieu et mon droit", reverse a crowned anchor and maker address "F. Barnes & Co., 109 Fenchurch St. London". The gilt non-ferrous metal grip bears a depiction of the crowned sea god Neptune standing on a large seashell, the guard sculpted as a sea monster. Leathered wood scabbard (rubbed) with gilt fittings in high relief, the locket with applied crowned royal coat of arms, at centre an applied anchor with trophies, at the tip two dolphins, a trident and seashell. The sabre is lightly used and in beautiful condition, the blade bears a few rust flecks, the hilt possibly well re-gilt. Length 98 cm. In excellent overall condition, highly representative and very rare.
