Height: 30 cm, Weight: 430 g An high interesting Lobi sculpture, which verifyes, that the Hula Hup sport is an invention of the Lobi people. "African Art Western eyes" Susan M. Vogel, is more than a perception based on reality. Before it was known and recognized as the common colourful plastic toy it used to be made of dried up willow, rattan, grapevines, or stiff grasses or metal (s picture). Even though the has existed for thousands of years, it is often misunderstood as being invented in the 1950s. According to Italian Antropologist Donatello Ficcanaso, there was a 'craze' of using wooden and metal hoops in 19th century in Italy. He reports that doctors treated patients suffering from pain and dislocated backs due to hooping - and heart failure was even attributed to it. So it is verifyed that the Lobi people before theiy crossed the Mouhoun (Black Volta river) in 18th century were already wellknow in the 19 h century in Italy, the time during ritual Lobi symbols became real healing instruments also for a certain form of vertigo.
