£15,000 - £20,000A fine Regency mahogany desk attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, having a black tooled leather writing surface with crossbanded edge above a central kneehole flanked on either side by four graduated drawers each with ebony cockbeading and handles with gilt metal lion mask centres, the top left hand drawer stamped "M. Willson", the desk raised on gilt metal lion paw feet with castors beneath. Width 57 ins, height 29.5 ins, depth 28 ins. NOTE - the cabinet maker Thomas Willson established a furniture broking business at 68 Queen Street in 1818, the business continued from 1821 under the brand M. Willson. This continued until 1830 when the firm changed its name to Mary Willson & Son. Gillows were reputed to supply M. Willson as well as their own retail outlet in London stamping pieces as appropriate.
