Description: Large Chinese-style chest in the style of a storage case for an o yoroi suit of armour, so-called Nagasaki article made for export to Europe. Design of playing monkeys between blooming wisteria and fruits on negoro lacquer ground in takamaki-e (relief maki-e), on the sides the forest floor in gold nashiji. Bronze mounts with remnants of gold-plating and karakusa engraving, laterally hinged handles. Resting on six feet with en suite engraved brass mounts. Slight signs of age and use. The chest lined on the inside with fabric wallpaper. Dimensions 132 x 67 x 74 cm, total height 95 cm.
