Circa 1865, blue crossed swords mark, incised F113. Finely painted after A. Coypel with Bacchus and Ariadne on the Island of Naxos within moulded and gilt strapwork and foliate scrolls on a platinum-seeded ground, the rim moulded with Espagnolettes and shells, the bracket handles formed as opposing dragons 19 1/8in. (48.5cm.) wide, overall NOTES See anon sale, Christie's, Monaco, 15 June 1990, lot 50 for the original painting by an Antoine Coypel (1661-1722). This work was once in the collection of S.A.R. Monsieur, Duc d'Orleans at Saint Cloud and now in the Collection of The Philadelphia Museum of Art.
