For this painting an expertise by Dr. Walther Berndt from 10.10.1966 is at hand. ...(the painting) is an immaculate, characteristic and very well preserved work of the Amsterdam painter Pieter Codde...A similar, slightly weaker version of this composition was in the Auction Moos-Genf, March 1933 No. 6 (Compare: Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, Pieter Codde, Art Work no. 3236).
The similar painting mentioned has a few differences in the details, for example a knocked over wickerbasket in front of the fireplace. The thirties of the 17th C. may be presumed to be the period of origin.
