Description: Hand-carved, detailed and elaborated, solid ivory pair, from the period preceding the birth of the Benin Republic. When elaborating them, the outer layer was removed with an ox-head axe, the scaling of the surface was done by a scaling chisel, and for the carving itself different ivory carving gouges were used. Afterwards they prepared the pedestal to it, which consists of wooden, sculptural female and male carvings. The pieces are located alternately, embracing the holding part, adorned with kauri shells to finish up. We see the imagery of crocodile, fish and panther for instance, the occurrence of which are common in the life of the tribal community. Height: 120 cm. Restored.
