Description: A rare and early Christian Dior black faille dress coat, Autumn-Winter, 1949-50, 'Mid Century' collection, un-labelled, with self-covered buttons to centre-front closure and waist, highly embellished black velvet cravat-like collar and front skirt panels, with three dimensional felt berries and foliage, jet-like beaded C-scroll tendrils, broad box pleats to the rear skirt, bust 92cm, 36in See 'Dior' Thames & Hudson p.107 for a photograph of an identical model.
Condition Report: Unlabelled. Silk - very fresh and clean appearance. Embroidered velvet areas also very fresh and complete. Underarm side seams show it has been slightly let out from underarm to hip, Button at neck has been slightly moved. Lining centre-back seam needs properly re-stitching. Lining has been opened up and roughly tacked closed again over the lower half of the skirt centre-back on the left and right (minor). Lining on hem has been raised but coat hem is at correct original length - embroidery finishes nicely on the velvet hem. Two holes in velvet on front left skirt edging, another higher up on outer edge, another on right front skirt panel. 1cm repaired split in velvet near hem to side of one if the 3D felt leaves. Lacking 1.5cm of beading at front right hem, beading is generally good. Very slight soiing on bodice hear a buttonhole (minor).
