Description: A Rare Unpainted Native American Chief Chalk ware Bust. Estimated more than 100 yrs old. Chalk ware is really plaster of Paris decorated with watercolors. One type was molded from porcelain models and painted and sold as inexpensive decorations in the nineteenth century and are very valuable today. Figures of plaster, made from about 1910 to 1940 for use as prizes at carnivals, are also known as chalk ware. Chalk ware is very unsophisticated and is often considered folk art.
