LAVR IVANOVICH TARAKANOV (RUSSIAN 1905-1988), Militiamen drill, circa 1940s, oil on canvas, 29 x 16 in (12 x 41 cm), signed on verso.
Tarakanov was a Russian Soviet graphic artist and painter. He lived in Perm, than in Moscow. He studied at Perm Art Technical School and graduated from the department of graphics of Moscow Art Institute. He worked at the factory Goznak. In 1935-40s he was accepted into the Association of Revolution`s Artists. He was known for his etchings. He exhibited at 30 exhibitions during his lifetime, including the ones overseas in Chicago, London, Warsaw.
