ELENA VLADIMIROVNA SEMENOVA (RUSSIAN 1898-1986), illustration to a novel Stalingrad by Theodor Plievier (1892-1955), 1943, watercolor on cardboard, 9-3/4 x 14 in (mat size 12 x 15-1/2 in), 25 x 35.5 cm (mat size 30.5 x 39.5 cm), initialed and dated lower left.
Semenova was a well-known Russian and Soviet Avant-garde graphic artist and designer (Constructivism). She studied in VHUTEMAS. Semenova was associated with LEF, Vladimir Mayakovsky and constructivist circle of Aleksandr Rodchenko.
