Description: Strong single-edged blade with double fullers on both sides and double-edged point, on the back etched maker's signature "frères Weyersberg à Solingen" and French acceptance mark "AP" at the root of the obverse. Relief knucklebow hilt made of gilded non-ferrous metal with four obverse buckles and an inlaid, massive silver cross on the knuckle shield, Grip coated with dark fish skin, triple wire wrap. Leather scabbard with gilded mountings from non-ferrous metal and two moveable suspension rings. Spotted blade, chape of scabbard replaced. Traces of use and age. Length 109 cm. The Mousquetaires gris formed the first company of the French King's guards. These life guards in whose ranks noblemen served, guarded the monarch and also were in battle service. It existed from 1622 to 1815 and owed its name to the silver-grey horses the musketeers rode. It were these life guards of the King that Dumas referred to in his novel "The Three Musketeers". An outstandingly rare and high-quality sabre from the times of the First Restoration.
