Description: Carte du Canada ou de la Nouvelle France... Guillaume Del'Isle. Engraved map. Paris: Chez L'Auteur, 1703. 20 1/4 x 26 1/4 inches visible, 30 1/2 x 36 3/4 inches framed. One of the seminal maps of Canada, which first appeared in 1703. Tooley notes the 1703 issue as the first printed map to show Detroit only two years after the founding of that village by Cadillac. Based on the work of Franquelin Joliet and the Jesuits. In this map he gives a superior rendering of the Great Lakes than in his map of North America of 1700.
