Description: A set of four Regency mahogany hall chairs , circa 1815, each shaped back with central painted dolphin armorial device, above a solid seat and turned tapering front legs, each 87cm high, 38cm wide, 46cm deep This crest painted to the back of each of these chairs is a dolphin embowed sable . The crest was granted to Colston in 1568 as a London merchant and member of the Grocer s company. Over time with variations of the spelling of the name, the crest has been adopted by those with the name Colston, Coulson or Coulston. Significant homes of the families associated with the crest include Coulston Hall, Lincolnshire, Filkins Hall in Oxfordshire and Roundway Park in Wiltshire. Colston Hall in Bristol was named after Edward Colston who started a school in the same location as the concert hall in the early part of the 18th century.
