Description: the shaped backs and seats above cabriole legs with carved knees, ending on hoof feet and joined by an x-shaped stretcher; redecorated
This highly decorative set is in reasonable conserved condition, and has been redecorated. There are overall marks, scratches, chips and losses - most notably to the hoof feet - consistent with age and use, as well as traces of old woodworm which appears to be no longer active. The painted surface displays faint hairline construction cracks. The second stool with painted surface and upholstery in distressed condition. In general, the silk upholstery is in reasonable condition, with signs of wear and tears especially to the seats. One chair with stretcher broken and repaired and one leg with losses to surface in need of attention. One other chair with one side to the seat broken and semi detached. One further chair with broken and repaired stretcher and surface cracks to the rear right leg in need of attention. One other chair with broken and repaired stretcher, and one other with a secure crack to the rear right leg. Although in need of some professional attention, these chairs remain structurally sound.
