Description: Heavy bronze figure of a standing bull. Chest, neck and head covered in tightly fitted sheet silver. Coarsely designed hooves and legs. Very expressive facial features with vivid wrinkles above the nostrils and eyes. Over the ears rudiments of horns, which were probably made of organic material and are missing. Above the left ear under the sheet silver cover one remaining pin for the attachment of the horn still recognisable. Extremely rare figure from the ancient Hittite period. Length 16.5 cm, height 13.5 cm. Mounted on a modern base with recesses for the hooves. Owned by an English collector between 1950-74. Sold to another collector in the London art trade in 1974. Purchased from the latter by the consignor in 2016.
