Description: Original, with 75 % complete field-grey paint. The decals for foreign volunteers were laterally reversed. The swastika shield on the right side is 85 % intact, and the runic shield on the left side is 90 % intact. Interior stamping, laterally struck "EF 66" and behind "2577". The liner with signs of usage and defects, underside depot stamping Gal. SS-Freiw. Regt. Nr. 6". Damaged chin strap. A clearly used helmet in undisturbed original condition. Of the greatest rarity. On 28 March 1943, Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler issued the order for the formation of a division of western Ukrainian volunteers, and its formation was established on 28 April 1943. The division was named Waffengrenadierdivision of the SS (Galician No. 1). The Galician lion served as its symbol, in yellow colour on a light blue shield with three crowns as a cockade. Its first commander was SS-Brigadeführer Fritz Freitag. The response to the announcement of a western Ukrainian division surprised the German service departments. Within a few weeks 80.000 Ukrainians volunteered at the recruiting stations, but no more than a quarter of these could actually be enlisted. The surplus volunteers were taken in by the police, and were formed into Galician SS Volunteer Regiments 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

As long as catalogue owner, auction participants and bidders do not state otherwise, they agree to the condition that the catalogue and the items displayed in the catalogue that refer to the Third Reich are used exclusively for the purpose of civic education, the purpose of defense against actions that defy the constitutional rights, the purpose of art or science, the purpose of academic research and education, coverage regarding contemporary/historic developments or for purposes similar to the ones stated above (§ 86a , 86 penal code). Importantly, absentee bidders should note that purchases made using our absentee bid form, by either telephone or in writing, that shipping instructions must be indicated by ticking the box on the bid form. In the absence of this instruction we will automatically assume that the buyer will require Hermann Historica to ship on his / her behalf. The standard shipping charge will cover the costs of packing and postage, together with insurance against loss or damage in transit only. These charges will be recorded on the buyer`s invoice (the insurance premium calculated at 1% of the aggregate purchase figure)
If shipping costs are not recorded on the buyer´s invoice it means either that the buyer intends to collect purchases in person or that standard shipping is not possible. In the latter case this may be for reasons of the abnormal size, weight or fragility of the purchased property, it may also result from the specific application of legal requirements.
In this instance we shall obtain a freight quotation on behalf of the buyer. Upon subsequent receipt of confirmed instructions Hermann Historica shall be pleased to proceed with shipping.
Due to changed regulations it is unfortunately no longer possible to send any kind of firearms from Germany to foreign destinations by regular mail service. We will, if possible, organise international shipping through forwarding agents or specialised courier services, however, with the consequence of noticeably higher shipping costs.
