Description: Double-edged blade of lenticular cross-section. The base of the blade with etched signature "ENRICHE COL ESPADEIRO DEL REY EM ALLEMANHA". The ricasso with smith mark struck on the obverse (C underneath a crown). Iron swept hilt, grip with original copper wire wrap (slightly damaged) and Turks' heads. Fishtail pommel pierced on one side. Length 102 cm. Heinrich Col, a German bladesmith from Solingen who worked in Toledo. Cf. Seitz I, p. 344, and II, p. 268. Swords of this type can be found in large number in the Ambras Castle collection. Auction 20, Hermann Historica, May 1989, lot 949.
