Description: A very fine cased pair of French percussion cap rifled target or duelling pistols, circa 1850, by Compagnat a Strasbourg, the 10.25-inch (26cms.) blued octagonal sighted barrels with multi-groove rifling engraved 'Compagnat a Strasbourg', with engraved locks and mounts, the locks marked in gold 'COMPAGNAT A STRASBOURG', the walnut half stocks with flared fluted butts, engraved faceted butt caps, and carved fore-ends, the pistols numbered '1' and '2' in gold on the barrels and barrel tangs, the original close fitted case containing its full set of accessories, the whole set preserved in excellent condition with most of the original finish (see illustration).
