Description: A Victorian mahogany extending dining table , circa 1870, with five aditional leaf insertions, the rectangular top with moulded edge above substantial turned and fluted legs terminating in Copes patent castors, the winding mechanism with aplied plaque for JOSEPH FITTER/ PATENT/ BRITANNIA WORKS/ CHEAPSIDE BIRMINGHAM, 73cm high, 389cm long, 146cm wide, together with a mahogany leaf rack for the additional leaf insertions Joseph Fitter was a Birmingham machinist, and applied for a patent for an extending dining table in 1861. Business directories in 1870 list him at this address. Provenance: Pen Moel, near Chepstow
