Jackson, 1982, the Art Gallery of Ontario, page 28 Provenance:Private Collection, Toronto In September of 1951 Jackson returned to the Barren Lands with his friend John Rennie of Giant Yellowknife Mines, an amateur painter. Reid states that the results of this trip were, "some of the finest sketches of Jackson's career. Viewed as a group they are unrivalled. The primeval nature of the landscape appealed to him, with its vigorous mid-summer life slinging tenaciously to the margins of existence."
