The Month of January: A winter landscape with The Adoration of the Magi signed and dated 'ABEL GRIMMER FECIT 1611' (upper right) oil on panel, circular 10 1/8 in. (25.8 cm.) diam. PROVENANCE with Galerie J.O. Leegenhoek, Paris. LITERATURE R. de Bertier de Sauvigny, Jacob et Abel Grimmer, Belgium, 1991, p. 235, no. LXVII, pl. 75, with June (the following lot). NOTES De Bertier de Sauvigny, loc. cit., suggests that this and the following lot may have been a part of the set of which The Month of April: The Parable of the Sower is in the Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, Durham ( ibid., p. 246, no. XCIX), and six others are known, in various locations ( ibid., pp. 268-71, nos. 1-5 and 8).
