Peter Bruckmann & Söhne (1805-1973)
The silverware factory Bruckmann was founded in 1805 by Georg Peter Bruckmann in Heilbronn. The company exhibited their products at trade fairs in Frankfurt and Leipzig and soon gained recognition outside the region. In order to improve the quality and to support his employees, Georg Peter Bruckmann established a modelling and drawing school and campaigned for the standardization of alloys and the legislative decree to protect designs and models. Under the leadership of the following generation, the company achieved numerous successes and was considered the largest and most modern silverware factory in Germany around the turn of the century. Peter Bruckmann, the grandson of the companys founder, was the chairman of the Deutscher Werkbund (German Work Federation) from 1887 until 1923. (lvp)
