The present painting follows the composition by Palma Il Vecchio painted circa 1523, the central image in the St. Barbara Altar, Church of Santa Maria Formosa, Venice.
In fine overall condition, the relined canvas largely unrestored save for some specific localized retouching, including to part of left eye, part of top of her head (her right), part of her hair (her right) and part of her right sleeve.
