Agar (Eileen, 1904-1991). Still life of fruit and melon, 20th century, gouache, signed in lower right, 19.5 x 22cm (7.5 x 8.5ins), framed and glazed. Eileen Agar trained at the Byam Shaw School of Art and then at the Slade. Whilst working in Paris she became friendly with the surrealist artists Andre Breton and Paul Eluard. Their influence was profound and AgarÕs work was widely shown at surrealist exhibitons in London, Paris, Tokyo, New York and Amsterdam. (1)
