Description: 2 vol., first edition , 3 folding maps, 2 plates, 44 vignettes, 12pp. advertisements, some foxing, cancelled library bookplate with ownership markings on front pastedowns, original blind-tooled cloth, spines worn at ends, corner tips rubbed, 8vo , 1842. An account of Ainsworth's expedition to the Christian tribes of Chaldea (1838-1840). Funded by the Royal Geographical Society and the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, the expedition took Ainsworth deep into the interior of Asia Minor, through eastern Turkey, Kurdistan, Armenia, northern Syria and Mesopotamia.
