Description: [Comic Art/Williamson, Al] Al (Alphonso)Williamson (1931-2010) for Union Carbide Flash Gordon Artwork featuring Bakelite in "Glacier Monster of the Ice Kingdom." ++ Colorist artwork for Flash Gordon "Glacier Monster of the Ice Kingdom" ad with penciled-in CMYK codes and hand-drawn color added to printed page. In this ad Flash Gordon and Dale Arden board their rocket ship to meet Queen Fria of Frigia, where they hunt down the Glacier Monster and melt an avalanche using an ice melter made of Bakelite. Page brittle, mostly mounted to board, some white correction fluid, covered by matte, 9 x 12 in. to outside. ++ 16 identical production proofs, single page, blank verso. Al Williamson signature in center panel, copyright 1970, King Features Syndicate, Inc., lower left. All vg condition. ++ 8 identical black acetate overlays, 1 magenta, 1 cyan, 1 yellow and 5 black, labeled "Union Carbide" and "Flash Gordon" on top edge. Minor tape residue, 8 1/2 x 11 ¾ in., very good cond. Provenance: The material was the property of the Union Carbide corporate advertising executive who worked directly with Williamson and who likely created this particular campaign.
