Book Details: The expedition, commanded by Albert Peter Low, was sent to patrol the waters and to assist in the establishment of permanent government stations on the shores. In addition to an account of the voyage, the report includes an historical summary of arctic exploration, and notes on geography, geology, whaling, the life and customs of the Esquimaux, navigation of Hudson's Bay, etc.
Condition / Notes: This antique volume is bound in green cloth covers with stamped gilt lettering on the spine and front cover. The front cover also bears a stamped gilt image of the Neptune. There are three small round moisture stains on the front cover. There is light rubbing at the edges and corners. The binding is sound.
The frontispiece depicts the Chief of the Aivillingmuit natives. The pages are clean with mild age toning. This work is illustrated with numerous photographic plates from Low's expedition. There is a large fold-out map in a pocket at the rear pastedown.
