Description: Alberto da Veiga Guinard (1896-1962) Original Oil on wood 37 x 24 cm. Hand signed. He was a Brazilian painter, known by painting the landscapes of Minas Gerais. Guignard was born in the state of Rio de Janeiro. He was born with a cleft lip. Guignard's father died when he was a child and his mother had a second marriage with he German baron Friedrich von Schilgen, with whom they moved to Germany. In Europe, Guignard studied painting from 11 to 33 years old. Guignard attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he studied with Herman Groeber and Adolf Engeler, and Florence. Back to Brazil, in 1929, he became a representative name of Brazilian Modernist painting.
