The Marque collection from emerging designer Alessandro Zambelli comprises a series of storage furniture that include a small cabinet, a dry bar, a console and a coffee table, where the material used
metal is oxidised to different levels and used to create linear forms and delicate geometrical motifs.
The stunning present example is created with blackoised iron in a subtle variety of shades, laid onto wooden doors, demonstrating a fresh take on the traditional technique of marquetry. Zambelli has said about the collection: "The use of inlaid metal is an homage to the Paris of the 20s and to the art-deco designs of Emile Ruhlmann and Jean Dunand, who were the main advocates of this style." (Alessandro Zambelli (2016) Marque Console, retrived from https://www.matterofstuff.com/product/marque-console-alessandro-zambelli/). The art-deco style also inspires the light, curved forms of the pieces.
Presented during London Design Festival 2016 the works received high acclaim from major publications Dezeen, Wallpaper, The New York Times and the Financial Times. Oxidised metal became one of the reoccurring trends at the festival.
The collection - curated by Matter of Stuff and produced by the respected Italian metal manufacturer Toscari - aimed to combine traditional Italian craftsmanship with contemporary design. The collection furthermore demonstrates a timelessness that beautifully marries elements of art-deco and contemporary style.
