Notes: The image offered here is one of six portrait studies of the Russian poet Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky (1893-1930) taken by Rodchenko in April 1924. This portrait was incorporated into a photomontage used as the cover illustration of Mayakovsky's 1926 book of poetry, Razgovor s fininspektorom o poesii (A Conversation with the Finance Inspector about Poetry). Another study from the April 1924 sitting was used by Rodchenko for the photomontage on the back cover of the book.
