Alfred Pellan 1906 - 1988 Canadian gouache on card Fleurs 19 3/4 x 16 inches 50.2 x 40.6 centimeters signed and dated 1960 Provenance:Private Collection, Montreal Pellan spent many years in Paris, and his work was inspired by European artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Klee and Léger. His boldly coloured works that show the influence of Cubism and Surrealism were influential in the Montreal scene in the 1940s. In 1948, Pellan founded the painting movement Prisme d'yeux, an anti-Automatist group, along with Jacques de Tonnancour. Pellan received many honours, including becoming the first Canadian to have a solo exhibition at the Musée national d'art moderne in Paris in 1955.
