inscribed on the banderole SIBILLA PERSICA GREMIV VIRGINIS/ ERIT SALVS GETIV ET IN VISIT oil on panel, unframed The present picture derives from one of the sibyls in the artists deipara Virgo, now in the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp. The present work shares a common headdress, format and pose. The scroll bears in Latin the prophecy of the Virgin's mission attributed to this sibyl: the womb of a virgin shall be the salvation of the peoples.
