American Industrial Art and Education : A late 19thC / early 20thC American Chautauqua Kindergarten Drawing Board / writing desk, pine and mahogany - the blackboard opening to reveal storage compartments and a folding desk. The top with revolving script revealing large section of school subjects and designs and current images of the time .44 1/2" high
Chautauqua was an adult education movement in the United States, popular in the late 19 th and early 20 th Century. Named after Lake Chautauqua . President Theodore Roosevelt was quoted as saying Chautauqua is ' the most American thing in America' . Initially started in New York State one can see the North American Germanic influence.
