James (1912-1999) and Kathryn Abbe shared a passion for photography, each with well-established careers in the profession, as well as a love for art and antiques. They liked the juxtaposition of one object with another and the myriad effects of light. Each had a great eye that came in handy when they worked as a team. James Abbe was a well-known dealer in folk art and other quality Americana for many years and was known for his excellent taste. Kathryn, an identical twin and the author of several wonderful books, has lived a storied life as a photographer.
Condition Report: Relined and stretched on original stretchers. Remarkably, the faces have no in-painting. Except for two minute spots on one sleeve of each girl, no inpainting on sitters.
