An early and important flintlock gun

Heavy, smooth, octagonal, 18 mm cal. barrel slightly bell-mouthed at the nozzle, marked M. LVIREVIL. L. at the base and stamped; smooth tang; large lock marked MAGASIN ROYAL, LOUIS CARTTER and stamped (effigy of sun above the letters I and T); wooden full stock with iron mounts, at the neck an engraved cartouche depicting three crowned lilies between laurel branches. Wooden ramrod. This scarce rifle was part of Magazin Royal, the official arsenal of the king's troops based at the Bastille, directed by Maximilien Titon since 1665. It features the royal coat of arms and it is one of the first weapons manufactured in this arsenal.
