An exhibition standard 7 ¼ inch gauge model of London, Midland and Scottish Railway Class 5 4-6-0 tender locomotive 'The Glasgow Highlander', 5157, built by the late Mr John Adams of Poole, fitted with a fully brazed and riveted super-heated copper boiler and fittings including twin safety valves, pressure and water gauges, swivelling regulator with stops, brake vacuum control / working steam brake control, twin injectors and whistle, the cab detail including planked flooring,
driver's seat, screw reverse gear, cylinder drain-cocks, injector water valves, scale size pressure gauges and hinged folding cab doors, the chassis fittings including detailed sanding gear, twin outside cylinders with cab-controlled drain-cocks, automatic relief valves, Stephenson's outside valve gear, finely fluted motion, lamp brackets and vacuum hoses, the tender fittings including hand-brake, water control column, hinged coal door, lamp holders and lifting eyes, single-acting longitudinal hand feed pump, lamp brackets and vacuum hose, finished in lined black livery, 217cm long, the cab 29cm wide.
Boiler History: The 7 ¼" Gauge Society Ltd. Boiler Tests Records. Club Member 480. Boiler Identity No. 7N6. Hydraulic Test Certificate No. SQ 700023 Test pressure 135 psi. Working Pressure 90 psi, expired 6th July 2011, recorded on certificate of steam test but original hydraulic test certificate not present. Steam Test Certificate No. ST 700033 Working Pressure 90 psi, expired 24th June 2011. Issued and signed by Mr Brian Reading and Mr Don Ketley, appointed boiler testers for the society.
Provenance: Commissioned and purchased directly from the late Mr John Adams. Builder's Plaque 'J.F. & G. Adams 1979 Poole'. Please note: L. M. S. Class 5. The locomotive has Walscheart's valve gear fitted. The locomotive is fitted with a standard regulator with usual black head operation to a slide valve situated under the dome. It has vaccum brakes for train operation. Not steam brakes. One injector. Mechanical eccentric feed pump, plus a tender hand pump
