HARDCOVER 1889 Houghton Mifflin Company 1st edition, circa 1892 printing; w/ "Copyright 1889" & no additional printings on copyright page. Exactly as shown in the listing scan(s). Nice Collectible hardcover copy. "In the first chapters, the author strikingly and convincingly shows that New England's history was the birth of centuries of travail and and then shows the importance of those travails in shaping New England history and the Puritans." Illustrated with a color map of New England. Also contains an index. This original hardcover edition is long out of print and difficult to find. Previous owner's name/date at top of 2nd blank end paper & small piece lost from upper right corner of page 279 with no loss or damage to any text, o/w internally tight & unmarked. Binding Exterior; TEG (Top Edge Gilt)/light handling wear/light rubbing to edges & head/foot of spine/darkening to right edge of front cover, affecting nothing; but all lettering/decoration readable.
