Part I contains 25 chapters and includes Inventors & alleged inventors prior to 1807. The first passenger steamboat; Steam navigation in Canadian waters 1809-1817; Steamboats on the Clyde 1812-1815; First Irish steamer 1815; First London steampackets; Arrival of the First steampacket on the Mersey 1815; Steam packets on the Mersey & Dee 1816-1818 including the loss of the "Regent"; Liverpool & Eastham packet 1817; First steamer to cross the Channel; First Rhine steamer; Early Clyde steamers; First steamer to cross the Atlantic; Liverpool & Irish steampackets; Routes to India; Burmah Steam Navigation Company; British India Steam Navigation Company; Bibby Line' etc. Part II contains 24 Chapters giving the history of some of the Steamship companues then in operation."
