Archaeological Revival Gold, Black Onyx Intaglio and Tortoise Shell Hair Comb, Ernesto Pierret
Centering five onyx intaglio silhouettes of classical men, women and soldiers, within nautical circle links spaced by stylized cylinder links applied with florets, atop a curved ribbed gold band, supported by a hinged tortoise shell comb, signed Pierret, circa 1870, with hinged pendant loop at comb hinge, added later. 5 x 4 1/4 inches.
Ernesto Pierret (1824-1870), originally from France, established himself in Rome in 1857, designing in a similar style to Castellani. Favorite materials were mosaics, intaglios and ancient coins.
