ASCRIBED TO LODOVICO CARRACCI (1555-1619) A portrait of a gentleman, half length, wearing a black coat and holding a letter, with a landscape beyond, indistinctly inscribed "Allo Mons/Car ...", oil on canvas, 30" x 24.5", in a 17th century giltwood frame. See illustration Provenance: Christies, London, 28th April 1950, lot 124 as "Carracci" (38gns to Wengraf). The Earl of Fingall, Killeen Castle, Co. Meeth, Ireland, 21st July 1953, possibly lot 410. The illegitimate daughter of Diego Rivera, Mrs Marika Phillips, Athelhampton House, Dorset (1949-1957). Private Collection, Dorset.
