Attributed To Charles Ricketts (1866-1931) Charles Haslewood Shannon bust portrait facing right, embossed copper roundel, inscribed, 7cm (2.75") diameter and another Fontis Ad Originem (for the origin of the fountain) embossed copper roundel of a crouching figure drinking from a spring Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon were life long artistic and personal partners, together they founded the Dial Magazine (1889-1897) and the Vale Press. Shannon's portrait of Ricketts 'The Man in an Inverness Cloak' shows the sitter's head in profile 'turning away from the 20th Century to think only of the 15th'; Ricketts admired this portrait and the roundel of Shannon could be seen to be doing the same.
