Lot 163: ATTRIBUTED TO FRANCESCO PODESTI | Venus and Triton
January 19, 2017
London, United KingdomLive Auction
Description: oil on canvas
The canvas has been relined. There are some spots of paint loss in the lower edge and one small spot above the male figure's head. There is an L-shaped 2 by 2cm tear in the sky in the upper centre of the composition and a vertical line of raised craquelure in the upper left corner. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of uneven fluorescence due to old discoloured varnish which make the surface difficult to read. However, some scattered spots of retouching are visible in the sky. This work is ready to hang. Presented in a gilt frame.
