"The Loss of the French Droits de L'Homme on the 14 January 1798, off Ushant after an attempt to land troops at Bantry Bay, Ireland". Old handwritten label on reverse reads "Loss of the French Droits de L'Homme on the 14 January 1798 off Ushant after an attempt to Land Troops at Bantry Bay, Ireland during the engagement the Amazon went on there. The Indefatigable beat off under storm sail with six feet water to her hold under the command of Sir Edward Pellew/by Tudgay/nearly 900 perished in the French and..... the English".
