ATTRIBUTED TO MICHELANGELO DI LODOVICO BUONARROTI SIMONI (1475-1564). A C20 CASTING, taken from 'The Virgin and Child with the infant St. John, CA, 1504-1505', D 115cm N.B. This casting was taken from the original marble sculpture 'Tondo Taddei', held by the Royal Academy in London. Bequeathed by Sir George Beaumont in 1822, it is the only marble sculpture by Michelangelo in Great Britain. This casting was only allowed due to Arnold Machin's high standing in the Royal Academy.
