NOTE

Das farbenprächtige Rosenbild ist ein selten schönes und monumentales Beispiel jener Periode, in der das ~sinnenhafte Augenerlebnis" (Hans van der Grinten) in den Vordergrund von Augusto Giacomettis Schaffen getreten war. Dieses bedeutende Spätwerk zählt zu jenen Blumenbildern, die ganz der Erforschung der Farbe gewidmet zu sein scheinen. Es ist ein Bild, das an die grossen koloristischen und der Abstraktion nahe stehenden Leistungen der Frühzeit anschliesst.

The wonderful colours of this picture of the roses is a seldom and monumental example of that period when the 'sensuous eye experience' (Hans van der Grinten) is the main theme of Augusto Giacometti's work. This late masterpiece is one of the flower paintings which seems to be a research of colours. It is a picture showing the great colourful and abstract achievement of the early days.
