Description: DESCRIPTION: Spalding Official Little League Special ball that features Babe Ruth's signature in black ink on the sweet spot and Lou Gehrig's also in black ink to Ruth's left on the west panel. With additional notation in another hand "Dexter Park Oct. 12 1928". With JSA Letter of Authenticity. PROVENANCE: Owner's maternal grandfather Arthur Walsh was an usher at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York. He was invited to usher at an exhibition game between the Yankees and the Dodgers at Dexter Park where he obtained the ball. Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth made three appearances together at Dexter Park located in Woodhaven, New York. Initially the site of a racetrack, it eventually became home to the Brooklyn Royal Giants Negro League team and the Brooklyn Bushwicks (1917-1951), an independent semi-pro team owned by Max Rosner, who also owned the park. All the famous players of the time came to play exhibition games at Dexter Park including Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. MEASUREMENTS: 3". CONDITION: Overall toning. Some wear to signatures. ADDENDUM (AS OF 11/6/09): The ball is an Official League Special ball, not a Little League Special ball. The letter of authenticity will be corrected.
